News from the Canadian Office: Canada is all set to modernize its immigration system! The government is expecting a significant surge in immigration applications once global travel restrictions begin to ease. As such, IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada) is upto the following:
- Develop tools to rapidly increase IRCC’s operational capacity so it can handle current manual application processing challenges much faster.
- Develop digital tools to address new social distancing requirements by reducing the need for in-person meetings through digital solutions (e.g., online citizenship testing & ceremonies) - Identify digital technology solutions for IRCC’s case management system
Identify how to automate certain processes so that immigration agents can focus more of their time on complex immigration applications
Incorporate data analytics solutions to provide insights on operational volumes and processing capacities so that IRCC can effectively respond to changes in Canada and abroad
Develop strategies to strengthen IRCC’s cybersecurity.
Canada's plan to welcome more than one million new permanent residents until 2022 remains as it is. IRCC is regularly conducting Express Entry Draws for CEC & PNP (Provincial Nominee) Candidates. Canada issued more than 2,000 invitations specifically through Provincial Nominee programs in the month of May 2020!
Did you know that between January and April, Canada welcomed 74,000 new immigrants.
Despite the impacts of the travel restrictions, it is still in the interest of candidates to go ahead and submit their Express Entry profiles and immigration applications during the pandemic if they have the ability to do so. A major reason why Canada needs immigrants is that all of Canada’s nine million baby boomers will reach retirement age by the end of this decade. This is where immigration comes in. Since Canada has a low birth rate, it is relying on immigration to drive the majority of its labor force growth. Hence, it still makes sense to admit high levels of newcomers even during this period.
